Lin, Suko Advance To Singles QFs At Regionals

EUGENE, Ore. -- Two Huskies are through to the final eight in singles at the ITA Fall Northwest Regionals hosted by Oregon. Sophomore Han-Chih Lin and freshman Nedim Suko got wins today, while the doubles tandem of Lin and freshman Rikuto Yamaguchi also advanced into the quarterfinals.

The tourney at Oregon's Student Tennis Center is a feeder into the Super Regionals, which the Huskies will host next week, and for which several more UW players are already qualified.

Lin had a 6-2, 7-5 win today over Gonzaga's Tom Hann. Lin was down 5-1 in the second set but then strung together six games in a row to end it in straight sets.

Suko reached a third set tiebreaker in just his second career match, and got the win. He held off Portland's Nikolas Tvedt, 6-3, 6-7, 7-6 and 7-3 in the final tiebreak.

Jack Pulliam and Rikuto Yamaguchi dropped their round of 16 singles matches.

Lin and Yamaguchi teamed up for the first time and had an 8-3 win over Gonzaga's Andersson/Roider. Pulliam and Adam Torocsik fell short in a tiebreak in their doubles match against Portland's Yoshida/Hibi, 8-7 (2).
