Oct 15, 2021

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona soccer team fell 4-1 against Washington at Mulcahy Stadium on Friday night.

The Wildcats (3-10-0, 0-6-0 Pac-12) dominated the first 20 minutes of the match, recording four shots and working into the attacking third consistently. However, Arizona conceded a goal to the Huskies (4-6-3, 2-2-2) after a misplayed ball inside the 18-yard box in the 21st minute.

From there, Washington ramped up the pressure before eventually drawing a foul in the box at the 39-minute mark and converting the penalty kick to double their lead. Madison Goerlinger nearly got one back before halftime but her shot sailed just over the crossbar in the 42nd minute.

Despite matching the Huskies shot-for-shot, the Wildcats conceded two more goals, one in the 50th minute and another in the 70th minute to fall behind 4-0. Senior Jill Aguilera responded with a goal of her own, sending a rocket from outside the 18-yard box back post to get Arizona on the board.

The goal was the 30th of Aguilera's career, moving her into sole possession of second place on the Cats all-time scoring list, just two shy of tying the record of 32.

Arizona recorded 13 shots on the night, keeping pace with the Huskies who also notched 13 shots. Goalkeeper Hope Hisey finished the match with five saves.

The Wildcats are back in action on Thursday, Oct. 21, at 3 p.m. (MST) against Cal in Berkley, Calif. Fans can catch that game live on pac-12.com.
