Since having his number called midway through Utah's Week 3 game at San Diego State, Rising has sparked the Utes with a 99-of-154 passing clip for 1,139 yards with 11 touchdowns against just two interceptions. On the ground, he has added 32 carries for 237 yards (7.4 ypc) and two rushing touchdowns. He moved into the starting role in Week 4 vs. Washington State, making four starts to date. Despite not holding the starting role at the start of the season, Rising was nevertheless voted a captain by his teammates.

There's no shortage of impressive statistical nuggets for the Ventura, California native, who currently ranks fourth in the Pac-12 in passing efficiency (147.4) and passing touchdowns (11), and is fifth in completion percentage (.643). The two-time Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week has passed for over 200 yards in three straight games, which includes a career-best 306-yard showing at USC.

Arguably Rising's breakout game came in that historic victory at USC, the first 300-yard passing effort by a Ute since 2019. The game is one of four this season in which Rising has passed for multiple touchdowns. His 37-yard flea flicker touchdown pass to Devaughn Vele in the second quarter against USC was a career-long touchdown pass. It also included Rising's first rushing score, a 17-yard scamper that was the longest such touchdown by a Utah quarterback since 2018.

Keeping with that theme, Rising's ability to run of late has been equally impressive as his arm. In back-to-back games (vs. Arizona State, at Oregon State), Rising has set a new career high in rushing yards, recording 59 yards (6 carries, 1 TD) against Arizona State and 73 (10 carries) at Oregon State. He has averaged 8.3 yards per carry in the last two games, which ties for second among FBS quarterbacks and ranks first in the Pac-12 in rushing yards per carry by a quarterback in the last two weeks.

ESPN currently ranks Rising atop the Pac-12 and No. 8 in the country in QBR (81.1). He has also led the Pac-12 in QBR in two of Utah's last three games. On the season, Rising has been a part of 14 scoring drives with perfect passing records (no in-completions) on 12 of those.

Utah (4-3, 3-1 Pac-12) returns to Rice-Eccles Stadium this Saturday, Oct. 30, as the Utes host UCLA in another key Pac-12 matchup. It'll also be the Utes' annual Dark Mode game, and kicks off at 8 p.m. MT on ESPN.
