Jonathan Smith Named To Bear Bryant Award Watch List

HOUSTON – Oregon State football's Jonathan Smith is one of 21 head coaches on the American Heart Association's 2021 Paul "Bear" Bryant Coach of the Year Award watch list, it was announced on Wednesday.
 
Smith has led the Beavers to a 5-2 record and 3-1 mark in Pac-12 Conference play this season as the Beavers prepare for Saturday's matchup at California. The Beavers are tied for first in Pac-12 North play. OSU is 4-0 at home for the first time since the 2012 season.
 
This season's coach of the year will be announced January 12, 2022 during an awards ceremony at Houston's Post Oak Hotel. In addition to the national honor, the awards program will also present conference coaches of the year from each Power 5 conference as well as one from the Group of 5.
 
Kickoff for Saturday's game at California is slated for 4 p.m. PT. The game will air live on the Pac-12 Network.
