PULLMAN, Wash. - The Cougs are headed back to the postseason as the road to the College Cup begins Saturday, November 13 at home at Lower Soccer Field. Selected as an at-large team after finishing third in the Pac-12 conference the Cougs will play host to Montana at 5 p.m. in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
 
The two teams have a familiar past, especially in the postseason having met in 2018 in Pullman in a game the Cougs won 5-1 to advance out of the opening round of action. The two teams last met at the start of the 2019 season in a match the Cougs won 6-0 at Lower Soccer Field.
 
Entering the 2021 postseason the Cougs are looking to repeat their magic run to the program's first College Cup in 2019. The 2021 class of fifth-year seniors have been the core of the Cougs unprecedented success in the postseason having advanced out of the first round of the tournament in all three of their postseason runs including the program's first sweet 16 in 2017 and the semifinal run in 2019.
 
The Cougs finished the 2021 regular season third in the Pac-12 having posted a 7-1-3 record in conference play. The seven wins tied for the most in program history while the .773 win percentage was the highest in the history of Cougar soccer in conference action. Defensively the Cougs were one of the best teams in the country finishing the regular season with 12 shutouts, the second-most in program history while finishing the year 13-2-4. The 13 wins in the regular season finished one shy of the program record 14 victories in the 2013 season.
