USC Lacrosse Signs Boston College Transfer Goalie Kait Devir

Nov 8, 2021

LOS ANGELES – The USC lacrosse team has signed transfer goaltender Kait Devir (Ridgewood, N.J.) who previously played two seasons at Boston College and won the 2021 NCAA championship with the Eagles, head coach Lindsey Munday announced on Monday, Nov. 8.

"We are thrilled to welcome Kait to the Trojan Family," said Munday. "She has played lacrosse at the highest level and her experience on a national championship team will be extremely valuable to our program. Kait has an incredible work ethic and I'm confident she will fit in with our team right away."

Devir—a 5-5 netminder—signed with Boston College out of high school. While she did not see action, her freshman season (2020) was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a sophomore, Devir played in two games during the Eagles' run to the 2021 NCAA championship. She picked up one save in action against Fairfield in the first round of the NCAA tournament and totaled 7:15 between the pipes in her two appearances.

Devir was a three-time Under Armour New Jersey High School All-America selection (2017-19) and was named to the North Jersey Interscholastic League second team as a senior. She collected over 100 career saves at RHS and helped her team win the 2019 Bergen County and NJ Group 4 Sectional championships. Devir played for STEPS Elite lacrosse club and is the third player to join the Trojans from Ridgewood HS following All-American defender Courtney Tarleton (2013-16) and midfielder Nicole Macolino (2019-20).

The Trojans also signed a pair of transfer athletes over the summer. Goalie Elyse Darcy (Norwalk, Conn.) and attacker Maggie Root (Baltimore, Md.) are each already on the USC roster as graduate transfers after completing degrees at Iona and Maryland respectively.

"The addition of Kait Devir completes our group of transfer athletes," said Munday. "Elyse and Maggie have been with our team since the beginning of the fall semester and both have brought a great competitive energy to the field, so we are excited for the development of each of these players and how our squad will come together in the spring."

Darcy played in 22 games with 18 starts at Iona (1,066 minutes) and collected 180 saves. She also had 45-career ground balls with the Gaels. Darcy was a three-time MAAC Academic Honor Roll selection and was named to the IWLCA's 2021 Academic Honor Roll. She was chosen for MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors once as a junior. Root played in nine games with one start with the Terrapins and scored two goals and had an assist while at UM.
