Lloyd Named AFCA All-America Second-Team
WACO, Texas – University of Utah linebacker Devin Lloyd received his seventh All-America recognition this season after being named to the AFCA All-America second-team this week.
Lloyd, who is Utah's 10th consensus All-American in program history, has earned 10 career All-America selections, including first-team recognition from Reese's Senior Bowl, CBS Sports, ESPN, Walter Camp, FWAA, Associated Press and Sporting News in 2021.
The Chula Vista, Calif., native leads the Utes this season with 106 total tackles (22.0 TFL, 8.0 sacks), adding four interceptions (2 TDs), six pass breakups and one fumble recovery.
His 22.0 tackles for loss this season ranks second in the FBS, and is the second-most by any linebacker named to the AFCA All-America first and second-teams. His 8.0 sacks this season leads all Pac-12 linebackers and is also the second-most by a linebacker on the AFCA All-America teams this season.
The Pat Tillman Defensive Player of the Year's four interceptions in 2021 is a career-high, also tied for the lead among all FBS linebackers for most interceptions this season. He is also just one of two linebackers nationally that have scored multiple pick-sixes this season and is the only Power Five linebacker this season with two interception returns for touchdowns.
Lloyd and the Utes will close out the season in the Rose Bowl against Ohio State on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022. The game is set for a 2 p.m. PT/3 p.m. MT kick on ESPN.
