Perryman & Penix Join UW Football Program

Dec 23, 2021

Cornerback Jordan Perryman and quarterback Michael Penix, Jr., are joining the Washington football program at the start of the winter quarter, which begins Jan. 4. Perryman joins the Huskies from UC Davis while Penix spent the last four seasons at Indiana.

"We are excited about Jordan and Michael joining our football family!" said UW head coach Kalen DeBoer. "They are both proven leaders and high character young men who are greats fits for our program. I know they are looking forward to being on campus soon and getting to know the rest of our team!"

Penix, who attended Tampa Bay Technical High School in Tampa, Fla., started games at quarterback for the Hoosiers in each of the last four seasons, and was a team captain the last two. In 2020, he earned second-team All-Big Ten and was named team MVP after completing 124-for-220 for 1,645 yards, 14 touchdowns and four interceptions.

In Seattle, he rejoins DeBoer, who served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Indiana in 2019. That year, Penix started six games as a redshirt freshman (he started three games in 2018), completing 110-of-160 attempts for 1,394 yards and 10 scores.

Perryman, from Hanford, Calif., earned All-Big Sky first team following the 2021 football season, when he helped lead UC Davis to an 8-4 overall record and the first round of the NCAA Division I-FCS Championships. He finished the 2021 season with 63 total tackles, along with 12 pass break-ups, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one interception.

He was also All-Big Sky and Phil Steele third-team All-America during the abbreviated 2020 (spring of 2021) season. In 2019, Perryman started all but one game, registering 41 total tackles and an interception. As a redshirt freshman in 2018, he played in 13 games, notching 20 tackles and two picks as Davis went 10-3 and reached the FCS quarterfinals.

Both Perryman and Penix will be immediately eligible for the Huskies.
