Bracketologists predict another strong showing for Pac-12 in March Madness

Jan 3, 2022

As college basketball enters conference play, bracketologists are honing in on their predictions for who will be invited to the 2022 NCAA men's and women's tournaments. And if the midseason forecasts are correct, the Pac-12 should expect another strong showing on college basketball's biggest stage.

Three major men’s tournament bracketologists — ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, CBS’s Jerry Palm, and NCAA.com’s Andy Katz — have released recent bracket predictions, and all believe that UCLA, USC, and Arizona are in line for top seeds this March. No. 5 UCLA (8-1) is looking to build on last year's run to the Final Four, No. 8 Arizona (12-1) is eager to get back to the tournament for the first time since 2018, while No. 7 USC (12-0) has emerged as one of just three remaining undefeated teams in the country.

On the women's side, ESPN’s Charlie Creme expects seven Pac-12 teams to qualify for the NCAA tournament. That would be more than last season when six teams made the field. Creme has last year's championship game participants, No. 2 Stanford and No. 4 Arizona, penciled in as 1-seeds this year.

The Pac-12 seasons continues in this New Year and will culminate in the Pac-12 tournaments, the winners of which get automatic bids to the Big Dance, which will take place on March 2-6 (Women's) and March 9-12 (Men's) in Las Vegas. NCAAs will follow, with the men's tournament beginning March 15 and the women's tipping off on March 18.
