Cats Post Stronger Second Round; Finish Sixth at Superstition

Jan 24, 2022

GOLD CANYON, Ariz. – Behind a 3-under round by senior Ya Chun Chang, Arizona Women's Golf improved its score by eight strokes on Tuesday to finish the Match in the Desert at Superstition Mountain in sixth place at 6-over par. Chang would finish the event as the top Wildcat on the leaderboards in a tie for tenth at 1-under par.

"We improved today as a team, which was important to see," said head coach Laura Ianello. "Our ladies made adjustments from the first round and posted better scores, which should give us some momentum going into three weeks of practice before the Lamkin Invitational. We will build on these two days at Superstition Mountain moving forward and continue to develop and improve."

Freshman Carolina Melgrati, who posted Arizona's lowest score in round one, gave Arizona a second top-15 finish with a final score of 1-over par.

The Wildcats' improvement as a team was most notable on Superstition Mountain's shortest holes, finish third in par-3 scoring.

Arizona will return to action on Monday, Feb. 14 when it makes its annual appearance in the Lamkin Invitational, hosted by San Diego State.
