Women of Utah Close Out Weekend in Seattle and ABQ

Feb 12, 2022

SEATTLE / ALBUQUERQUE – The Utah track & field team closed out yet another successful weekend full of PRs on Saturday between its two squads at the Husky Classic and Don Kirby Elite Invitational.

"We just keep piling up all-time marks and records," head coach Kyle Kepler noted at the conclusion of both meets. "We also had a few strong efforts that were near misses in regard to lifetime bests. I really like how our women competed, stuck their noses in races and were racing to win. The PRs are great, but building a championship mindset is what it's all about and this group is working hard at that."

At the Dempsey Indoor Track, Rachel Whipple opened the day off for Utah in the 400m dash with a run of 58.78. Simone Plourde once again saw her name inserted into the Utah record books and posted the third-fastest time in program history with a time of 4:38.25. Sophie Ryan was just shy of a new personal best time (4:45.51) after crossing the finish line at 4:45.73. Later on in the 800m, Brooke Manson recorded a mark of 2:09.58 to close out the day in the PNW for Utah.

Ruby Jane Mathewson picked up a new PR to kick open the day for the track squad inside the Albuquerque Convention Center, finishing with a time of 8.94 (aa) in the 60m hurdle qualifier while Bailey Kealamakia checked in with a time of 9.21 (aa). Over in the 60m dash qualifying runs, Maya LeBar ran a 7.90 (aa) followed by Taylor Watson at 8.05 (aa).

The Utah 4x400m relay team of Lauren O'Banion, Kelise Davis, Jasie York and Josefine Eriksen wrapped up the weekend in ABQ for Utah posting the third-fastest relay time in program history at 3:43.21 (aa) to place second overall.
