Ellis Posts Season Best at Air Force

Feb 18, 2022

USAFA, Colo. – Lexi Ellis recorded a season best Friday afternoon to win the women's triple jump at the Air Force Collegiate Open. Ellis and fellow UO jumper Pierce LaCoste—men's long jump—both secured wins at the Cadet Field House.

Through her first three attempts, Ellis had a best of 13.15m/43-1.75 from the third round of jumps. She saved the best for her final attempt of the day, getting out to 13.24m/43-5.25 for a new season best. On the NCAA descending-order list, Ellis continues to hold the No. 19 spot with Friday's effort and moves to within seven centimeters of a top-16 national ranking.

LaCoste put together a consistent series with four jumps of 7.36 or farther meters including the winning mark of 7.54m/24-9 in the fifth round. The measure is his second-best jump of the season, following his 7.64m/25-0.75 performance at the Razorback Invitational (Jan. 28). LaCoste came into the weekend with the No. 35 mark in the NCAA, just 10 centimeters shy of the top 16.

The Ducks' indoor season continues Feb. 25-26 at the Pac-12 Invitational in Seattle. At season's end, the top 16 declared individuals and top 12 relays advance to the NCAA Championships (March 11-12) at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
