Metroplex Challenge Complete

FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 18 Cardinal finished with a score of 195.450 at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Cardinal placed third in the Lone Star State's challenge, falling to No. 3 Oklahoma and No.38 Washington but topping No.12 Denver. The meet is the first of two competitions within three days for Stanford. 

The Cardinal kicked off the quad meet on beam, recording a team score of 48.475. Super senior Taylor Lawson and senior Wesley Stephenson led the rotation, scoring a 9.800 and 9.825, respectively. Sophomore Sze En Tan added a 9.750 while freshman Brenna Neault recorded a 9.775.  

Stanford regrouped with a stellar 49.325 on floor in its second rotation. Freshmen Neault and Anapaula Gutierrez led off with scores of 9.800, Neault's effort matching her season best, and senior Madison Brunette's routine earned a 9.775. The Cardinal's final three performances of the rotation led the scoring efforts, with senior Morgan Hoang recording a career-best matching score of 9.925 for the second consecutive week while Lawson and Bryant scored a 9.875 and a 9.925, respectively.

After floor, the Cardinal went to vault in its third rotation. Junior Jade Chrobok and Neault kicked off things with a 9.700 each, and Brunette followed with a 9.775. Bryant and Zeng rounded out the rotation with scores of 9.825 and 9.675 for a team total of 48.675. 

The Cardinal finished the night on bars with a score of 48.975. Stanford was led by Lawson and Brunette's 9.850 efforts. The Cardinal's scoring on bars was completed with a 9.825 performance from senior Grace Waguespack, a 9.775 effort from Bryant, and a 9.675 routine from Gutierrez. 

Stanford returns from Texas and heads right back to Maples Pavilion to host No. 19 BYU, No. 24 Boise State, and Sacramento State Monday, Feb. 21. The meet is slated to start at 2 p.m.
