Carson Barry Paces Beavers In First Day At The Prestige

LA QUINTA, Calif. – Carson Barry shot a par-71 to pace the Oregon State men's golf team in the opening day of The Prestige at the Greg Norman Course at PGA West on Monday afternoon.
 
The event, being held at the par-71, 7,100-yard course, opened with 18 holes. The 24-team event continues Tuesday with 18 more holes and the Beavers will enter it tied for 12th.
 
Barry led the Beavers, who finished with a 13-over 297, to place in a tie for 11th. He picked up three birdies, at the par-4 380-yard fifth hole, the par-4 337-yard 11th hole and at the 16th, which is a par-5 going 537 yards.
 
Barry enters the second day of action tied for ninth among 120 entrants
 
Barry was followed by Mateo Fuenmayor and Jackson Lake, who each finished in a tie for 53rd. Both tallied three birdies as well, with the former picking up all three in the back nine. Fuenmayor birdied holes 11, 16 and 17 (par-3, 180 yards).
 
Lake picked up two of his three birdies in the front nine. He birdied holes 1 (par-4, 409 yards), 2 (par-4, 470 yards) and 16.
 
Brandon Eyre finished at a tie for 65th when he completed the first day of action at a 5-over 76. Nolan Thoroughgood enters the second day of play in a tie for 106th at 9-over 80.
