Beavers Set for Pac-12 Invitational

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's track and field team returns to Seattle, Wash. for the Pac-12 Invitational, hosted by the University of Washington at the Dempsey Indoor Center. Action will begin at noon on Friday with the women's weight throw. The Beavers' first event on the track will be the pentathlon's 60-meter hurdles, slated for 12:15 p.m. 
 
Action will resume on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the women's high jump. On the track, the Beavers' first event will be the women's 60-meter hurdles final at 11:00 a.m.
 
Last Time Out
Oregon State last hit the track Feb. 11-12, splitting the squad between the Don Kirby Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. and Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash. 
 
The Beavers broke two school records at the Husky Classic. Senior Mari Friedman set a new record in the 800 meters with a time of 2:08.43, edging past Kathy Weston's record of 2:08.65, which was originally set on Jan. 6, 1979. Friedman finished first in her heat and 13th overall. In the 3000 meters, redshirt junior Grace Fetherstonhaugh clocked a time of 9:01.74 to finish fourth overall and surpass fellow redshirt junior Kaylee Mitchell's record of 9:03.26, which was set only two weeks prior. Mitchell came within one second of Oregon State's mile record, stopping the clock at 4:38.25 for a personal best. The current mile record stands at 4:37.57 and was set in 2012 by Laura Carlyle. 
 
Redshirt freshman Jade Whitfield moved to second in the Oregon State all-time list in the weight throw after recording a personal-best mark of 16.92m (55' 6.25"). She landed eighth overall in the event. In the shot put, redshirt senior Keely McLaughlin placed fifth with a toss of 14.07m (46' 2"). 
 
At the Don Kirby Elite Invitational, senior Emma Nelson posted a third-place finish in the high jump with an indoor personal-best of 1.78m (5' 10"). Freshman Lara Denbow matched her personal-best of 1.73m (5' 8") to place tenth. Sophomore Delaney Bahn moved to fourth in the OSU all-time list in the long jump after posting a personal-best leap of 5.85m (19' 2.50"). Her performance landed her 14th overall in the event.
 
Freshman Jada Hurley also moved to fourth in the OSU all-time list in the 200 meters after clocking a personal best time of 25.09. Hurley finished tied for 16th in the event. Sophomore Adael Scatena stopped the clock at 8.99 to finish 17th in the qualifying round of the 60-meter hurdles. 
 
NCAA Standings
With the NCAA Indoor Championships just around the corner, redshirt junior Grace Fetherstonhaugh stands 15th in the nation in the 3000 meters after her performance at the Husky Classic.  Fellow redshirt junior Kaylee Mitchell is 20th in the 3000-meter standings with her time of 9:03.26, which was set on Jan. 28, also in Seattle. Mitchell ranks 43rd in the mile after her performance at the Husky Classic. In the high jump, senior Emma Nelson ranks 36th with a clearance of 1.78m (5' 10"), set at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational (Feb. 11). Moresdorf is 42nd in the pentathlon with 3840 points, scored at the WSU Invitational (Feb. 3)
 
Pac-12 Standings
On the Pac-12 Indoor Performance list, Oregon State remains in the top-10 in nine event categories. Fetherstonhaugh now leads in the 3000 meters category, with Mitchell in third. In the 5000 meters, Fetherstonhaugh has moved to ninth after posting a time of 16:26.02 at the Spokane Invitational (Dec. 11). Mitchell is currently ninth in the mile category. In the high jump, Nelson is second in the conference, followed by Denbow, who is ninth. Moersdorf remains fifth in the pentathlon (3840 points) and has moved to seventh in the long jump (5.92m (19' 5.25")). Also in the long jump, Bahn has landed in ninth after the Don Kirby Elite Invitational (Feb. 11). The Beavers remain at eighth in the shot put with McLaughlin's toss of 14.49m (47' 6.5"), and in the pentathlon with Bahn's score of 3492 points. The Beavers' distance medley relay team is seventh in the conference, and the 4x400-meter relay team is tenth.
