SEATTLE -- Husky junior Clement Chidekh picked up a Pac-12 Player of the Week Award today after helping the Huskies to a win over Wisconsin on Sunday morning, the same week where he climbed to No. 1 in the national rankings.
Chidekh and the Dawgs start Pac-12 play this coming Saturday on the road at Oregon. In their final tune-up before the conference opener, the Huskies handled the Badgers out of the Big Ten by a 5-2 margin. Chidekh was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Jared Pratt at the No. 1 spot. He also teamed with Nedim Suko for a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles.
It was the first match ever played by a Dawg with the No. 1 ranking attached to their name. Earlier last week, Chidekh moved from No. 2 to No. 1 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles poll, becoming the first Husky to reach the top spot.
The native of France is now 17-3 overall on the year and 6-0 in dual singles play.
