Wildcats Shut Out Arizona Western 3-0

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Arizona Wildcats shut out their first Spring opponent, the Arizona Western Matadors, 3-0. The Wildcats were strong opposers to the Matadors as they took the lead in all offensive areas, with 12 shots and 11 corner kicks. Keeper Hope Hisey had a single save off the Matadors only shot. This is Arizona's first time facing off against Arizona Western giving them an overall record of 1-0.

Women of the Match
Freshman Maddy Koleno had a pair of assists on both Madison Goerlinger and Desiree Foster's goals. These two assists come after earning a single assist during the regular season.

Freshman Gianna Christiansen, who scored the Cats second goal of the night, and sophomore Megan Chelf were a leaders in the Arizona offense, taking half of the Wildcat's shots. During the regular season the pair took a combined total of 18 shots, both placing in the top 10 for shots in the season.

Arizona's first goal of the match was a sneaky shot by from the left side by junior Madison Goerlinger. Goerlinger did not see any goals during the regular season but made four assists, the most of any 2021 Wildcat. Her goal was assisted by freshman Maddy Koleno. 

Next Up
The Cats will take on in-state rival Arizona State in their second Spring match of the season on March 18. The pair will face off at 6 p.m. MST at the Sun Devil Soccer Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.
