Mar 6, 2022

TEMPE, Ariz. – Zachory Lundgren and Thomas Wesche will represent Sun Devil Dive this week at the Zone E Diving Championships in Flagstaff at the Wall Aquatic Center from March 7-9.

Competition will begin Monday with the 3-meter event, platform on Tuesday and they'll conclude with the 1-meter Wednesday. Preliminaries for each event are slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. MST.

The Sun Devils will be joined by 20 other teams at the three-day event, which is hosted by Northern Arizona University and will be streamed live on the team's Facebook page. Results will be posted here.

Both Lundgren and Wesche will partake in Monday's 3-meter event. Lundgren will also compete in the platform event on Tuesday.

Lundgren, the University of Hawaii transfer, qualified for the 3-meter Zone E Championships in his Sun Devil debut against Stanford on January 21. Having been in the program for just a few weeks at that point, he scored a 334.80 against the Cardinal. He also qualified for the platform event when he earned a score of 310.85 against GCU in early February.

At last week's Pac-12 Diving Championships, Lundgren qualified for the finals in the platform dive. In the final, Lundgren went 274.95 to secure a seventh-place finish. In the 3-meter, he placed 15th.

Wesche, who transferred from Grand Canyon, qualified for the 3-meter after he placed first in the event in a mini-meet against his former team in early February. He scored a 342.25, which punched his ticket for the Zone E Championships. He will participate in just the 3-meter this week after finishing 14th overall in the event a week ago at the conference championships.

COACH'S WORDS
Head coach Marc Briggs: "Qualifying for Zones this season was a big accomplishment for our crew and we're thrilled to be here diving against some of the best divers in the country. Our men are prepared and diving well, but making Nationals will be difficult with only 4 spots available. Our goal is to finish in the top 15 on 3-meter this season and to build on it for next year."
