Videler Leads Bruin Quartet After First Day of Heptathlon

Riverside, Calif. – Four Bruin women headed out to Riverside for the first four events of a heptathlon at the UC Riverside Spring Classic, with senior Isa Videler leading the way after the first day of competition.
 
Videler is currently second overall in the standings with 3,199 points. She opened her day with a fourth-place finish in the 100H, clocking a time of 14.49 for 910 points. She won the high jump competition with a mark of 1.71m (5-07.25) and went on to take second in the shot put with a toss of 11.05m (36-03.00). Videler capped her day with a runner-up showing in the 200m, crossing the line with a time of 25.70 for 824 points.
 
Sydney Johnson is currently third overall (3071 points) and leads a trio of Bruin freshmen behind Videler. The Roseville, Calif., native notched a lifetime-best time of 14.05 in the 100H to earn 971 points. She finished third and seventh overall, respectively, in the high jump (1.68m, 5-06.00) and shot put  (8.79m, 28-10.25) op[;competitions before picking up a third-place finish in the 200m. Her time of 25.75 earned her 819 points.
 
Freshman Amber Jackson also made her outdoor debut for the Bruins and sits in fifth place with 2637 points. Jackson's day was highlighted by a third-place finish in the high jump which saw her clear 1.68m (5-06.00) for 830 points. Fellow first-year Jazmin Taylor is currently 11th with 1,354 points. Taylor was seventh in the high jump (1.56m, 5-01.25) and sixth in the shot put (3.69m, 12-01.25), but did not record a time in the 200m.
 
The Bruin quartet will finish the remaining three heptathlon events (long jump, javelin, and 800m) on Friday afternoon in Riverside.
 
Back home at Drake Stadium, UCLA will host the Bob Larsen Distance Invitational on Friday evening. The Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invite will also open with several field events on Friday, but the bulk of the meet program will take place on Saturday at Drake.
