Men’s Tennis Takes Down No. 46 Washington, 4-0

SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 35 Utah men's tennis team earned its second ranked win of the weekend on Sunday afternoon after taking down No. 46 Washington, 4-0. The win for the Utes improved them to 18-4 on the season. 
 
In doubles, the Utes wasted little time getting the lead. Utah held the lead on every court early in the matches. Francisco Bastias and Bruno Caula won the first match of the day with a 6-2 victory over the No. 34 doubles team of Clement Chidekh and Nedim Suko. Utah's top doubles team of Franco Capalbo and Geronimo Espin Busleiman, ranked 22nd, won 6-3, clinching the doubles point. Mathias Gavelin and Jayson Blando were right behind them and held a 5-2 lead, but the match went unfinished. 
 
Bruno Krenn put the Utes ahead 2-0 with a win in No. 6 singles. Krenn came away with a 7-5 victory in a back and forth first set. He battled Nedim Suko in the second set and won 6-4. This was his second victory of the weekend. 
 
Gavelin increased the Utes lead to 3-0 with a victory in No. 5 singles. He matched up with Cesar Bouchelaghem and won 6-4, 6-3. Espin Busleiman clinched the match in No. 3 singles. Espin Busleiman faced No. 100 ranked singles player Ewen Lumsden and won the first set 6-2 and claimed the second set 6-4, winning the match. 
 
The rest of the matches went unfinished on the day. On court one, Franco Capalbo faced the fourth-ranked ITA singles player in Clement Chidekh. Capalbo dropped set one, 6-2, but responded and won set two, 6-3, forcing a third set. Bastias was ahead one set in his match as well. He won the first set 6-4 and was in a tiebreak in the second set that went unfinished. Caula dropped the first set but was ahead 3-1 in the second set.
