SEATTLE -- Coming off a third school record in his first season as a Husky, Brian Fay has earned his first Pac-12 Men's Track Athlete of the Week award. Fay, who hails from Dublin, Ireland, is the first Husky to win the Men's Track weekly honor since 2017.
Fay broke the UW 10,000-meters record by nine seconds on Friday night at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, North Carolina. He ran a time of 28:22.31 for the 25 laps. Just a few steps behind Fay was teammate Kieran Lumb, who also was under the old record, with a time of 28:25.93. Current senior Tibebu Proctor set the old record just last year, at 28:31.59. Prior to Proctor, the record had stood for twenty years at 28:34.54 by David Bazzi.
Fay is already a two-time All-American, having earned the honor during the fall cross country season, and having just placed sixth at the NCAA Indoor Championships at 5,000-meters, for the best finish ever by a Husky in an NCAA 5k final. He set the 5k school record indoors, and anchored the school record-setting DMR as well. The DMR with Fay, Luke Houser, Anthony Smith, and Cass Elliott, was named USTFCCCA National Athletes of the Week back in February.
