Mar 31, 2022

MORAGA, Calif. – In non-conference action Thursday afternoon, No. 23 Oregon State softball earned an 11-0 victory behind a stellar outing from Mariah Mazon. The Beaver offense exploded for 10 hits, including four from freshman Kiki Escobar.

Mazon earned the win after tossing 5.0 frames, giving up just one hit while notching three strikeouts in the performance. She improved to 10-3 this season. Sarah Haendiges came in for relief in the sixth, pitching the final two innings with four strikeouts and just one hit.

Oregon State (26-8) did all its damage in the third and seventh innings, putting up three and eight runs in the frames, respectively. Escobar continued her stellar freshman start with four hits in five at-bats. In total, three Beavers recorded multiple hits and six recorded at least an RBI.

The offense broke through in the top of the third, as Escobar got things started with a single through right to load the bases. A pair of Gael miscues and a fielder's choice led to three unearned Beavers runs.

In the top of the seventh, Oregon State sealed the win with eight runs off five hits and a SMC error. Highlighting the frame was a pair doubles from Frankie Hammoude and Escobar. Harleigh Braswell registered her first career Beaver hit off a single to left in that frame as well.
