Buffs Add Colorado Native Layne

Apr 5, 2022

BOULDER—Head coach Danny Sanchez continued to add to his roster, announcing the signing of forward Emerson Layne on Tuesday.

"Emerson is a great addition to our 2022 recruiting class," Sanchez noted. "She is a very dynamic attacking personality that can play numerous roles. We feel Emerson can have a real impact as a freshman with our squad."

Layne, a Fort Collins, Colo., native, adds to the already stacked class of '22, joining previous commitments from Coco Thistle (Encinitas, Calif.), Sophia Petrov (Chino Hills, Calif.), Josie Master (Corona Del Mar, Calif.), Mallory Allen (Austin, Texas) Juliauna Hayward (Thornton, Colo.), and Leila Lister (Reading, UK).

Rated as a four-star recruit by Top Drawer Soccer, Layne played her club career with Real Colorado. Layne was the 2020-21 ECNL U18/19 Northwest Conference Player of the Year and was a member of the 2020-21 ECNL U18/19 All-America Team. She's also ranked No. 82 in the IMG Academy Top 150.

Internationally, Layne participated in numerous U15 US National Team camps. She was also invited to YNT Regional ID camps and an iD2 Selection.

The Buffs continue with spring action this week, to Lincoln, Neb., to take on the Huskers on Saturday.
