Dechesere Named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah Lacrosse program was honored by the ASUN Conference this week after goalkeeper Zion Dechesere earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance in Utah's 10-8 win at Air Force.

This is Dechesere's first player of the week honor with the Utes collecting their ninth ASUN honor of the season. The Utes won their conference opener against Air Force on Saturday, improving to 1-0 in ASUN play and 5-3 overall while earning their fourth road win of the season.

The Henderson, Nev., native produced a 63.6% save percentage against Air Force, allowing just eight goals while racking up a season-high 14 saves. Dechesere currently leads the ASUN and ranks 21st nationally in goals against average (10.54).

Dechesere played all 60 minutes in Utah's win over the Falcons, stepping up in pivotal moments to make key saves down the stretch. He had four saves with one goal allowed in the first quarter while also causing a turnover in the second quarter that led to Utah's fourth goal of the game.

He also had two pivotal saves late in the second quarter that allowed Utah to take a 5-4 lead into halftime. In the second half, he produced eight of his 14 saves, including five in the fourth quarter that allowed the Utes to leave Colorado Springs with a two-point win.
