Canada Swimming on Monday announced that UCLA commit Katrina Bellio has been selected to represent her home country at the 2022 FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Bellio was one of just 14 female athletes selected to the Canadian roster, and one of just three selected for both pool and open water competition. In addition, she was named a nominee for the Commonwealth Games, though the final roster for that competition won't be ratified until later this month.

Athletes qualified for Team Canada based on their performances at the Bell Canadian Swimming Trials, which took place last week in Victoria, B.C.

Bellio finished top-two in a trio of events at the Canadian Trials, highlighted by a win in the 800 free (8:38.90) on the last day of competition. Earlier in the week, she had secured runner-up finishes in the 400 free (4:11.06) and 1500 free (16:34.24)

The Mississauga, Ontario native qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 1500 free after winning that race during last year's Canadian swimming trials. She finished 21st overall in the 1500m heats in Tokyo.

The 2022 FINA World Championships are scheduled for Jun. 18 to Jul. 3 in the Hungarian capital, with pool swimming running the first eight days followed by open water competition.
