No. 3 UCLA Sends Seniors Out in Style

LOS ANGELES -- No. 3 UCLA (28-4) posted a 4-1 win over No. 4 LMU (25-6) on "Senior Day" to close out the Bruins' 2022 home schedule on Wednesday night at Mapes Beach. UCLA improved to 16-4 all-time against Loyola Marymount.

UCLA's Natalie Myszkowski and Sophie Moore scored the first point of the dual on court four, holding off Abbey Thorup and Selina Marolf in three sets, 21-16, 16-21, 15-11.

The Bruins' Jaden Whitmarsh and Devon Newberry rallied to put UCLA up 2-0 in a three-set thriller over Avery Poppinga and Marine Kinna on court three, 16-21, 21-17, 17-15.

The Bruins' pair of Marlie Monserez and Rileigh Powers remained undefeated (8-0 overall, 7-0 on court five), clinching the dual win for UCLA with a 21-19, 21-19 win over Jacinda Ramirez and Isabelle Reffel.

UCLA would go up 4-0 after senior Lea Monkhouse and Jessie Smith posted a straight-set win on court three over LMU's ad after Vilhelmiina Prihti and Macy Gordon, 21-18, 21-16.

LMU avoided the sweep when Megan Rice and Reka Orsi Toth rallied to defeat Lexy Denaburg and Abby Van Winkle on court one, 13-21, 21-11, 15-13.

In exhibition action, Tessa Van Winkle and senior Maggie Walters defeated the Lions' Cassie Chinn and Madi Firnett, 21-18, 21-13.

The Bruins return to action on Friday, Apr. 22 when they close the 2022 regular season at No. 1 USC (27-1) at 1:00 p.m. PT at Merle Norman Stadium.
