Apr 29, 2022

LOS ANGELES — USC outside linebacker Drake Jackson was selected by the San Francisco 49ers as the 29th pick of the second round (61st overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Jackson is USC's 518th all-time NFL draftee. USC is second behind Notre Dame's 521 for most NFL draft picks produced.

He becomes the 15th USC linebacker drafted since 2007 (Dallas Sartz and Oscar Lua in 2007, Keith Rivers and Thomas Williams in 2008, Brian Cushing, Clay Matthews, Rey Maualuga and Kaluka Maiava in 2009, Malcolm Smith in 2011, Devon Kennard in 2014, Hayes Pullard in 2015, Su'a Cravens in 2016, Uchenna Nwosu in 2018 and Cameron Smith in 2019).

He was the 49ers' first selection of the 2022 Draft.

In his career, Jackson had 103 tackles, including 25 for losses (with 12.5 sacks), 4 deflections, 2 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery and 1 forced fumble. He appeared in 28 games, with 26 starts.

A 2021 Lott IMPACT Trophy quarterfinalist, Jackson was named to the 2021 All-Pac-12 second team as a junior. In his third year as a starter, had 37 tackles, including a team-high 8 for losses of 35 yards (with 5 sacks for 30 yards), plus 1 fumble recovery, 1 forced fumble, 1 interception and 1 deflection.

As a sophomore in 2020, made the All-Pac-12 second team and tallied 20 tackles, including 5.5 for losses of 27 yards (with 2 sacks for minus 17 yards), and made an interception.

In 2019, Jackson was selected to the All-Pac-12 second team after his freshman debut where he collected 46 tackles, including a team-best 11.5 for losses of 60 yards (with a team-high 5.5 sacks for minus 44 yards), plus 3 deflections, a forced fumble and a safety.

On Thursday (April 28), USC wide receiver Drake London was selected in the first round as the No. 8 overall pick by the Atlanta Falcons, the 84th Trojan first rounder ever (second most of any school). A USC player has been drafted every year since 1939.

The 2022 NFL Draft concludes with the fourth through seventh rounds on Saturday (April 30).
