No. 2 UCLA Advances to Winner's Bracket Final

GULF SHORES, Ala. -- No. 2 UCLA (34-7) advanced to the winner's bracket final of the 2022 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship after defeating No. 14 Georgia State (28-12), 3-0, on Saturday morning at Gulf Beach Place. UCLA improved to 3-0 all-time against the Panthers.

UCLA's Lea Monkhouse and Jessie Smith improved to 3-0 at the NCAA Championship and put the Bruins up 1-0 with a 21-17, 21-13, win on court three over Georgia State's Yasmin Kuck and Kayla Whetstone.

The Bruins quickly went up 2-0 when Lexy Denaburg and Abby Van Winkle, who also improved to 3-0 at the NCAA Tournament,  defeated the Panthers' Elise Saga and Kelly Dorn on court one, 21-11, 23-21.

UCLA's pair on court two of Devon Newberry and Jaden Whitmarsh also remained undefeated (2-0) at the NCAA Championship with a 21-13, 21-19, win over GSU's Eden Hawes and Maddy Delmonte to clinch the dual victory.

UCLA's freshman pair of Natalie Myszkowski and Sophie Moore held a 21-19, 18-10, lead on court five over the Panthers' Chloee Kleespies and Becky Tresham when time was called.

Marlie Monserez and Rileigh Powers were also unable to finish but were trailing 19-21, 16-16, to GSU's twin pair of Angel and Bella Ferary on court four.

UCLA will face No. 1 USC on Saturday, May 7 at 3:00 p.m. CT/1:00 p.m. PT at Gulf Beach Place on ESPN2. The Trojans advanced to the winner's bracket final with a 3-1 win over No. 5 Florida State.
