Cats Close Out First Day of Pac-12 Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Arizona Track and Field kicked off the Pac-12 Championships with a flurry of multi events before moving on to running and field events. Sieben and Meisberger highlight the first day of competitions for the Cats with an event win each.

Day One Highlights

Skylar Sieben finished the first day of the multis in fourth place overall with 3,288 points while being behind only 168 points to the leader, Allie Jones from Stanford. Sieben won the heptathlon shot put with a mark of 12.13m (39'-9.75"). Dominic Gehr currently sits in seventh in the decathlon with 3,113 points.

Hollan Powers earned a PR during the heptathlon 100m hurdles in her first career Pac-12 Championship. Maddy Christopher also ran a personal-best on the first day of the Pac-12s with a 1500m run of 4:28.73.

Shannon Meisberger made qualifying look easy with the top time in the qualifying round of the 400m hurdle of 58.77 to move on to the finals of the event.

Ava David launched a new PR in the hammer throw with a mark of 57.84m (189'-9") to make the finals and place eighth in her first championship appearance. Jared O'Riley rounded out a solid day of throws with a fourth-place finish in the javelin throw, coming it at a distance of 65.46m (214'-9").

The Cats will return tomorrow at 11 a.m. MST for multis, starting with the decathlon's 110m hurdles. The throwing events will begin at 1:45 p.m. MST with the men's hammer throw while the running events will take place at 4 p.m. MST with the 100m hurdle prelims featuring Talie Bonds.
