Cats Bring in Huge High Jump Addition, Emma Gates

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona track and field squad is excited to welcome Emma Gates from Turner, Oregon and Cascade high school to our highly ranked high jump squad. The UA squad was ranked #1 in the NCAA in 2021 and currently ranked #2 in the NCAA for 2022. With current jumpers like Talie Bonds, who is the Pac-12 Champion in the high jump, and Alexa Porpaczy, who won the high jump event multiple times this season, this addition will keep the Wildcats at the top of the nation in the event. 

Emma had the #1 jump in the nation indoors this year for high schoolers and was ranked #8 in the World for 18 and under high jumpers with a mark of 1.83m or six feet. So far this outdoor season she has jumped 1.84m or 6' ¼" and is ranked #3 in the U.S. high school rankings and is #3 in the World under 18 rankings.

Emma has a 4.136 weighted gpa and has qualified for the Oregon State high school meet in the high jump, 100m, 200m and 4 x 400 meter relay event. She will compete in the Nike High School Challenge Meet after her State meet and will participate in the USA National Junior Championships later this summer.
