Turner, Reynolds Advance to 400m Quarterfinals at NCAA Prelims

Fayetteville, Ark. - UCLA Track & Field made its debut in the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds with two athletes advancing in competition. A pair of sprinters, Ismail Turner and Cameron Reynolds, will compete again in the 400m quarterfinals on Friday at John McDonnell Field for a chance to move on to the NCAA Championships.

Turner and Reynolds automatically qualified for the quarterfinals after finishing second in their respective heats. Turner ran a personal best of 45.58, finishing second in heat four and third overall in the preliminary round. Reynolds also finished second in his heat, running 46.61 in heat five. Teammate Myles Misener-Daley took fourth in heat five with a 46.80, placing 33rd overall. Turner and Reynolds will compete in Heat 3 of the quarterfinals on Friday at 6:50pm CT/4:50pm PT. The top three performances from each quarterfinal heat, plus the three next fastest times will advance to Eugene.

Senior Jacob Wilson just missed out on qualifying in the shot put, finishing 13th with a throw of 19.18m (62-11.25), one inch shy of the 12th and final qualifying mark. Wilson also competed in the hammer earlier in the day, finishing 40th with a throw of 59.25m (194-4). Junior Kris Emig was the Bruins' top finisher in the hammer, placing 18th after recording 64.16m (210-6).

Rounding out the first day of competition for UCLA, Tate Curran tied for 30th (5.04m / 16-06.50) in the pole vault.

The Bruin women begin competition on Thursday with Jillian Stafford and Lyvante Su'emai throwing the hammer at 10am CT/8am PT. Also competing in the afternoon is Lauren McFall in the javelin at 2pm CT/12pm PT. In evening action, the Bruins will have entries in the shot put (Su'emai), 1500m (Gwyn George), 400m (Shae Anderson), 800m (Rose Pittman), 200m (Catherine Leger and Makenzy Pierre-Webster) and the 10,000m (Alyssa Bautista).
