Stellar Year for Woolnough Continues with CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

May 26, 2022

FAYETVILLE – With competition at the NCAA West Regionals set to begin on the women's side on Thursday, May 26, Utah cross country and track & field standout Cara Woolnough was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for district 8 the association announced.

This is the second time Woolnough has been named to the all-district team in her career, garnering second-team all-district honors in 2019 and recently graduated from the U with a 4.0 GPA in biomedical engineering. Additionally, she is the sixth student-athlete from the University of Utah across five different sports to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Team accolades so far during the 2021-22 academic year.

Woolnough has had a great senior season, guiding Utah to a win at the Dellinger Invitational before helping the Utes to their highest finish at the Pac-12 Championships (second) during the cross country season – including a seventh-place finish individually. She also led the Women of Utah to a runner-up finish at the NCAA Cross Country West Regional meet, which earn her all-region honors to go with her First-Team All-Pac-12 award.

The indoor track season saw her win the 5k race at the UW Invite before setting a new PR in the indoor 3k (9:13.57) and second-place in the 5k at the Pac-12 Invitational.

Woolnough's outdoor season started off great just like her indoor season, winning the 1500m race at the Trojan Invitational with a PR mark of 4:21.29. She then broke the school record in the 5000m race at the Bryan Clay Invitational after posting a mark of 15:40.52 for her second-straight top-10 finish in the event this season before taking fourth-overall at the Pac-12 Championships.

Academically, the Brisbane, Australia, native has racked up the accolades in her collegiate career. In the 2021-22 academic calendar alone, Woolnough has earned Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll honors both in the fall and winter while also earning USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Academic.

Woolnough and the Women of Utah kick open the NCAA West Regionals this evening in Fayetteville, Ark., at John McDonald Field. First race for the Utes begins at 5:30 p.m. (MT) / 6:30 p.m. (CT) local while Woolnough is set to compete in the 5000m race on Saturday, May 28, at approximately 7:10 p.m. (MT) / 8:10 p.m. (CT) local.
