Jun 8, 2022

EUGENE, OREGON – Three men from California track & field kicked off competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Wednesday, June 8 at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field. All three athletes made their NCAA Outdoor Championships debut, with two (sophomore Ivar Moisander and junior Hakim McMorris) participating in their first-ever Championships, period.

That did not phase McMorris, who set the pace for Cal with a stunning performance on the first day of the decathlon competition by compiling a total of 4241 points across five events. He currently sits in fourth place, having finished third in both the 100m dash (10.68) and the long jump (7.45m/24-1.5), as well as a fourth-place finish in the 400m dash (46.97) to place him among the day's top competitors.

Pac-12 Champion Josh Johnson added to his 2022 accolades by reaching Second Team All-American status in the shot put, his first such honor in an outdoor season and third total. He only just missed out on the final by an inch and a half, finishing 10th with a top throw of 19.39m (63-7.5).
