Five Cougars Named CSCAA Scholar All-Americans

RICHMOND, Va. (June 29, 2022) – Five Washington State swimmers earned CSCAA Scholar All-America honors, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced Wednesday.
 
Senior Chloe Larson received first-team honors while senior Lauren Burckel, freshman Noelle Harvey, senior Taylor McCoy and freshman Sophie Macy each received second-team accolades.  The five CSCAA Scholar All-America selections are the most in program history.
 
To qualify for First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes earned a minimum GPA of 3.5 and participated in their national championship.  Second-Team selections also earned a 3.50 GPA or higher and achieved a "B" time standard for the national championship or participated at a diving zone qualification meet.
 
Larson earns her third career scholar All-America honor including her second-straight first-team selection after posting a 3.88 GPA (Sport Science) during the spring semester while reaching the NCAA Championships for the second straight season. The Rapid City, S.D. native tallied nine individual wins, broke her own school record in the 50 Free, helped the 200 Free relay team and 400 Free relay teams set school records and qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 50 Free and 100 Free.
 
Burckel earned her third career scholar All-America honor after posting a 3.91 GPA in the spring semester and recorded an NCAA "B" time in the 100 Breast. The Albuquerque, N.M. native competed in eight events, tallied two individual wins and earned Pac-12 Conference Winter Academic Honors while majoring in biochemistry.
 
Harvey picks up her first career scholar All-America accolade after posting a 3.64 spring GPA while majoring in kinesiology. The Carlsbad, Calif. native qualified to the CSCAA National Invitational Championships in the 50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free, 100 Back and 200 Back. In her first collegiate season, Harvey recorded three individual wins and was a member of the school-record setting 200 Free and 400 Free relay teams.
 
Macy records her first career scholar All-America honor after recording a 3.67 spring GPA while majoring in chemical engineering. The Chanhassen, Minn. native qualified to the CSCAA National Invitational Championships in the 50 Breast, 200 Breast, 200 IM and 400 IM. In her first collegiate season, Macy competed in all 12 meets and recorded three WSU Top-10 times.
 
McCoy earned her program-record fifth career Scholar All-America honor after posting a 4.00 GPA while working on her master's degree in sport management. The Pullman, Wash. native recorded an NCAA "B" time in the 400 IM, led WSU with 13 individual wins, set school records in the 200 Back and 400 IM and closed her career with a win at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship in the 200 Back.
The Cougars posted a 3.58 team semester GPA in the spring to earned the team honor the twelfth straight semester including all eight under head coach Matt Leach and for the 22nd time in program history. WSU's 3.58 team GPA featured eight 4.0 and 19 student-athletes with a 3.0 or better during the semester. The 3.58 team GPA was the third-highest among all Pac-12 Conference teams.
 
Founded in 1922, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), is the nation's first organization of college coaches. The mission of the CSCAA is to advance the sport of swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy, and professional development
