Gym Devils Get 11 On WCGA Scholastic All-America List

ITHACA, N.Y. - Sun Devil Gymnastics continues to shine in the classroom as they placed 11 on the 2021-22 Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Scholastic All-America list, as well as the team being third in the Pac-12 for cumulative GPA. 
 
With a team GPA of 3.6153, Arizona State had 11 on the WCGA list, the fifth time in the last six years with 10 or more earning the honor. To earn Scholastic All-America status, student-athletes must earn a 3.5 overall GPA for 2019-20.
 
This program has a rich history of academic honors. Ten Gym Devils made the 2022 Pac-12 Winter Academic Honor Roll. In her senior season, Megan Thompson earned her fourth-straight scholastic All-American nod to cap off her career. Five Gym Devils had a perfect 4.0 GPA: Cassi Barbanente, Jordyn Jaslow, Jada Mangahas, Alex Theodorou and Thompson.

Overall, there were 53 teams with a team GPA of 3.5 or more on a 4.0 scale. There were 228 (14.53%) student-athletes with a 4.0 GPA, and a record number of gymnasts – 1,077 (68.84% of all reporting gymnasts) with a 3.5 or better GPA, the most reported since 2008. This is the second year in a row where more than 1,000 Scholastic All-America team members were awarded.
