Huskies To Host Air Force On Sunday

SEATTLE – Following a season-opening 3-0 win over Fresno State, the UW women's soccer team returns to the pitch to take on Air Force on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff from Husky Soccer Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
 
STRONG START TO THE SEASON
The Huskies opened the 2022 campaign with a 3-0 win over Fresno State. In the contest, Washington scored its first goal in 54 seconds. Kyla Ferry, Karlee Stueckle and Hailey Still all scored a goal, with Still scoring her first career goal.
 
The three goal by the Huskies marks the first time since 2014 that UW opened the season with three or more goals. The last was vs. Kentucky as Washington went on to win 4-1.
 
UW-AIR FORCE SERIES HISTORY
The contest marks the first time that Air Force and Washington have met.
 
PRESEASON RECOGNITION
Summer Yates was tabbed to the United Soccer Coaches Players to Watch list earlier this week. Yates was also named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and named to the Top Drawer Soccer Top 100, coming in at No. 43.
 
Freshman Kolo Suliafu was also recognized as a Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Freshman Best XI.
 
THE RETURNERS
Looking ahead to the 2022 season, the Huskies welcome back 21 players from last year's squad in addition to 10 newcomers and three mid-year transfers from Arizona State, Washington State and Florida. The returners bring back a combined 11,502 minutes of playing time from last year.
 
In addition, the Huskies return eight starters. Three of the five captains return for one final season on Montlake – Mary Johnston, Shae Holmes and Olivia Sekany.
 
UP NEXT
The Huskies head down to their first of two trips to Southern California. Washington starts the roadtrip at Loyola Marymount on Thursday (Aug. 25) and then at Long Beach State on Sunday (Aug. 28).
