Washington Set For First Road Test
SEATTLE – The UW women's soccer team has started out their 2022 campaign strong with two dominant wins against Fresno State and Air Force. The squad will be taking on Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon. Kickoff from Sullivan Field is set for 4 p.m. PST.
The Huskies have yet to allow a goal this season in both of their shutout victories at home.
The eight goals over the first two matchups marks the first time in 20 years Washington has recorded eight or more goals to start the season. It also marks just the fourth time in program history the squad has achieved this.
The team also received national ranking votes from the United Soccer Coaches in week one of play for the first time this season.
UW-LMU SERIES HISTORY
Washington leads the all-time series history between the two programs, 1-0-1. The last meeting between the schools came on Aug. 29, 2021, that resulted in a 1-0 win for UW.
Fifth-year forward Summer Yates was added to the United Soccer Coaches Player Watch List. She was also named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and ranked 23rd in the Top Drawer Soccer Top 100.
Freshman defender Kolo Suliafu was also recognized as a Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Freshman Best XI.
SUCCESS SO FAR
Yates assisted on a goal scored by Kala McDaniel just minutes into the Huskies' 5-0 win over Air Force Sunday. Suliafu also notched an assist in the shutout win over the Falcons.
The win also highlighted Helena Reischling scoring her first goal of the season and Tatum Thomason scoring her first career goal off a free kick by Jace Holmes.
Karlee Stueckle stayed hot for the Huskies, scoring her second goal in as many games to contribute to the 5-0 victory.
Washington will take on Long Beach State on Sunday (Aug. 28) during their time in Southern California before returning home to Husky Soccer Stadium to host Texas Tech Thursday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m.
