Sun Devil Soccer, Grambling State agree to play on Sept. 14 in Tempe

Sep 1, 2022

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Sun Devil soccer team today announced it has agreed to play a non-conference game against Grambling State on Wed., Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. in Tempe.

"I am delighted to add another game to our 2022 schedule," ASU head coach Graham Winkworth said. "To have the weather cancel our match against Hawaii was so disappointing. The coaches, the players and our fans wait so long for our short season to arrive so we want to have a full set of fixtures.

"I reached out to all the teams in the country to see if anyone would be interested in coming to Tempe during what was a very small window of days. Grambling State was the first team to respond that they would be interested and I cannot thank Coach [Justin] Wagar enough for helping us put this game together. We wanted to give our players and fans an additional home game and so I am delighted to welcome the pre-season favorites for the Southwestern Athletic Conference."

The Sun Devils' game vs. Hawaii on August 21 was canceled due to lightning that continued to remain in the area more than 30 minutes beyond the originally scheduled game time.

Currently 1-0-2, the Sun Devils are back in action later this morning when they host UAB at 11 a.m. The game can be seen on Pac-12 Insider. Tickets for today's game and Sunday's contest vs. Georgia Southern (7 p.m.) can be purchased by clicking here.
