Carter Brown Named Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week
SAN FRANCISCO – Sun Devil Football freshman placekicker Carter Brown was named the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning.
Brown enjoyed an incredible debut in the Maroon & Gold, making major contributions to Arizona State's 40-3 season-opening victory over Northern Arizona.
The Sun Devils picked up their 11th consecutive win over the Lumberjacks and emerged victorious in their 20th straight home opener. Brown opened the scoring with a 27-yard field goal, registering the first points of the season in the first quarter. Arizona State did not look back, building a comfortable lead before halftime on the strength of an impressive running game.
After collecting eight Player of the Week awards a season ago, Sun Devil Football continues to add to their trophy case under Head Coach Herm Edwards. Since he arrived in Tempe prior to the 2018 season, Arizona State has had 31 Pac-12 Player of the Week selections, fifth-most in the conference. Since 1983, Sun Devils have won a total of 145 Pac-10/12 Player of the Week Honors.
Brown is the first winner of the Special Teams Player of the Week Award since D.J. Taylor claimed it after the 2021 season opener. He becomes the ninth individual to claim this award under Herm Edwards and the 19th since Associate Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator Shawn Slocum arrived in Tempe back in 2013.

Carter Brown – Special Teams Player of the Week
It is hard to have a better debut than freshman placekicker Carter Brown had on Thursday night in Arizona State's 40-3 season opening win over NAU. The true freshman proved he belonged on the big stage, enjoying a perfect first game in a Sun Devil uniform. Brown went 4-for-4 on his field goal attempts and 4-for-4 on extra points, making him responsible for 16 total points. Brown was the only kicker in the entire FBS to make four field goals during the opening week.
Brown nailed kicks from 27 and 36 yards before finishing up with a pair of 44-yard field goals to put the game away in the fourth quarter. Brown became the first Sun Devil kicker ever with four field goals in his first game. The performance is tied for the fourth-most made field goals in single-game program history since 1996. Brown led all Pac-12 kickers in making four field goals, with no other kicker making more than two field goals in the opening week. He connected on two kicks of 40+ yards, the first Sun Devil to hit two 40+ yard field goals since Sept. 22, 2018.
