R.J. Hubert Named Semifinalist For William V. Campbell Trophy

IRVING, Texas – University of Utah safety R.J. Hubert has been named a semifinalist for the 2022 William V. Campbell Trophy. The award is given out annually to the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.

The award is in its 33rd year with this year's semifinalists comprising of 156 student-athletes. The National Football Foundation will announce 12-14 finalists on Oct. 26, and each of them will receive at $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2022 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class with the winner of the trophy being announced on Dec. 6 with his postgraduate scholarship being increased to $25,000.

Hubert, who graduated in 2021 with a degree in communications, is a three-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll selection. He has also earned a spot on the AD Honor Roll eight times and has been a Dean's List selection four times during his career at Utah.

He has played in 29 career games with seven starts, including all four games this season. Hubert is third on the team in total tackles (16.0), also ranking sixth nationally in forced fumbles with two.

Hubert started the season with a career-high eight tackles at Florida, also recovering a fumble and returning it 47 yards. The Logandale, Nev., native also recorded his first-career interception in Utah's game against Southern Utah, taking it to the end zone for a 39-yard pick-six.

Off the field, Hubert volunteers to read to children at elementary schools in the Salt Lake City area while also creating motivational videos for local schools and youth teams. Hubert, a three-time leadership council selection, has also volunteered at the veteran wing of the Utah Hospital system.
