Lutkemeyer Earns Singles Title at Women of Troy Invite
LOS ANGELES – Four members of the UCLA women's tennis team saw action at the Women of Troy Invitational on the campus of USC from Oct. 7-9, with freshman Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer securing the singles championship for her performance.
Arizona, Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, UC Santa Barbara and the host Trojans also competed at David X. Marks Tennis Stadium. Two teams squared off at a time, utilizing a hidden dual format. The Bruins posted five singles wins over the course of the event.
Lutkemeyer had an unblemished singles record, notching straight-set victories against Stefania Rogozinska-Dzik of LMU, Emma Charney of USC and Calissa Dellabarca of UCSB.
Senior Sasha Vagramov won twice in singles play, defeated Eva Marie Voracek of LMU and Kira Reuter of UCSB. The matchup of Vagramov and Voracek proved a close one, with the Bruin ultimately prevailing 6-2, 2-6, 1-0(4).
Junior Vanessa Ong pushed Marta Gonzalez Ballbe of UCSB to a third set, while senior Caroline Goldberg also went to a winner-take-all frame with Luciana Kunkel of LMU, but each suffered a narrow loss.
Next on UCLA's fall calendar is a trip to San Diego for the ITA Southwest Regional Championships. Play from Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center goes from Oct. 20-24.
