Tubelis Earns Pac-12 and Multiple National Player of the Week Honors

Feb 7, 2023

TUCSON, Ariz. – Following his huge week against Oregon and Oregon State, Arizona forward Azuolas Tubelis has cemented his name in the national player of the year conversation. And for his efforts last week, he was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for the second time this season and third time in his career.

The Lithuanian was also named National Player of the Week by the Naismith Trophy, the United States Basketball Writers Association, Andy Katz for NCAA.com and the Field of 68.

For the two games, Tubelis averaged 29.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.5 steals while shooting an astonishing 71.0% percent from the floor (22-31) to help Arizona remain a half game behind UCLA for the top spot in the Pac-12 standings.

On Thursday against Oregon, he finished with 40 points on 16 of 21 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds to go with three assists and three steals. It was the most points scored by a Division I player since Dec. 2021 and the most by an Arizona player since Damon Stoudamire scored 40 vs. WSU in March 1995. He was one point shy of tying the McKale Center record of 41 points by the late Al Fleming in 1976.

Then on Saturday against Oregon State, he tallied 19 points and eight rebounds in 23 minutes of action as the Wildcats cruised to the win.

Tubelis joins Purdue's Zach Edey as the only two Division I players averaging at least 20.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and shooting 55% from the field.

Tubelis was also named Pac-12 Player of the Week on Dec. 26, 2022 and Feb. 7, 2022.

The Wildcats are ranked No. 4 in the Associated Press Poll this week with a 20-3 overall record and a 10-3 mark in conference play while riding a six-game winning streak.

Arizona is on the road this week, traveling to play at Cal on Thursday and at Stanford on Saturday.
