Englar Wins Vault As Dawgs Close Out Stanford

Apr 1, 2023

STANFORD, Calif. – The Husky track and field squad had a small group finishing up action at the Stanford Invitational today at Cobb Track & Angell Field. The Husky jumpers had a strong day, with season-bests in the triple jump from Tim Luebbert and Lauren Heggen, and a victory in the pole vault from Jacob Englar.

Englar, who finished 13th at the NCAA Indoor Championships a few weeks back, got up and over 17-6 ½ to finish first in the invite section of the pole vault today. It was a foot higher than his outdoor opener last week in San Diego and puts him to a tie for 9th nationally based on marks entering the weekend.

In the men's triple jump, Luebbert went 49-5 ½ just slightly wind-aided at +2.1 and also had a wind-legal jump of 48-4 ¾.

On the women's side, Heggen had a season-best of 40-7 ¾, just half an inch off the best of her career.

Ida Eikeng threw the javelin for the first time this season, one of the strongest events for the heptathlete. She won her section with a toss of 156-feet, 5-inches.

Decathletes Jami Schlueter and Ollie Thorner put the shot, as Schlueter went 43-3 and Thorner went 41-6 ½.

On the track, Sam Ellis doubled back from winning the 1,500-meters on Friday and took fourth in the 800-meters today in a time of 1:49.70.

Sophie O'Sullivan ran 2:15.20 and Elle Rutherford ran 2:17.20.

Next week for the Huskies it will be back to San Diego for the Triton Invitational, on Apr. 7-8.
