UCLA Rowing Celebrates Life of Amy Fuller Kearney

Jun 3, 2023

Members of the UCLA and rowing community gathered at the UCLA Boathouse in Marina del Rey on June 3 to celebrate the life of longtime UCLA rowing head coach Amy Fuller Kearney, who passed away in March.

Speakers sharing heartfelt stories and tributes included UCLA Rowing head coach Previn Chandraratna, Fuller Kearney's Olympic teammate Torrey Palmer, close friend and former UCLA swimming & diving head coach Cyndi Gallagher, and former UCLA rowing assistant coach Dawn Regan, who was a member of Fuller Kearney's first Bruin team.

"Your impact will forever be ingrained in the work we do, the company we keep, and the good we do in this world," said Regan. "You will be deeply missed, but your spirit will forever live on in the hearts that you've touched. May your soul find eternal peace knowing that your legacy as a mentor and a champion lives on for each and every one of us."

After a memorial plaque for Fuller Kearney was unveiled, her Olympic teammates concluded the celebration with a ceremonial row-by in the Spirit of '95, UCLA's varsity eight shell named in her honor. They left her seat seven open in her memory.
