Husky Alum Jessika Cowart Named to Philippines World Cup Roster

Jul 11, 2023

SEATTLE – Washington women's soccer alum Jessika Cowart has been named to the Philippines National Team roster for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, taking place July 20 through August 20 in New Zealand.

Cowart is the sixth former Husky to make a Women's World Cup roster, joining the likes of Hope Solo, Tina Frimpong (Ellertson), Veronica Perez, Dominique Bond-Flasza and Mireya Grey.

Cowart, who has played professionally overseas in Turkey, Serbia and Sweden since graduating from UW in 2021, has received 19 caps for the Philippines, including helping lead the national team to the 2022 AFF Championship.

A native of Redwood City, California, Cowart appeared in 66 matches over four seasons for the Huskies, scoring four goals and adding three assists. The midfielder started all 21 matches in 2019, claiming Husky Invitational Defensive MVP honors, as Washington advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Returning from injury, Cowart scored a career-high three times in her final season in 2021, including a goal in the season opener at No. 2 North Carolina and a pair of goals in Pac-12 play.

The Philippines have been drawn to Group A of the 2023 Women's World Cup. The Azkals will open group play against Switzerland on Friday, July 21, and are also joined in Group A by host New Zealand and Norway.
