Swim & Dive Adds Wesley Foltz As Assistant Coach

Aug 11, 2023

LOS ANGELES – UCLA head swimming and diving coach Jordan Wolfrum announced on Friday that the program has hired Wesley Foltz as an assistant coach.

Foltz arrives in Westwood with over a decade of coaching experience at the collegiate and club levels, highlighted by back-to-back National Championships with the women's team at Virginia in 2021 and 2022. He has also made stops at NC State and USC collegiately, while also coaching club at Cavalier Aquatics, Wolfpack Team Elite, Trojan Swim Club, and Marlins of Raleigh.

"We are thrilled to add Wes to our staff," said Wolfrum. "Wes stood out in our search with his passion for greatness and commitment to elite swimming. With a strong history of developing great athletes and building elite teams, Wes is an exciting addition to our pool deck. Our team can't wait to welcome Wes and his family to Westwood."

Foltz comes to UCLA after a highly-successful five-season stop at Virginia. Working mostly with the team's sprinters, he helped the women's squad to a pair of team national championships and four consecutive top-10 NCAA finishes (there were no NCAA Championships in 2020 due to COVID-19). On the men's side, Foltz helped the Cavaliers to a top-10 finish at NCAAs in each of his final three seasons, including a sixth-place result in 2022.

Virginia earned ACC Women's Staff of the Year honors four times during his tenure (2018, 2020-22), taking home league championships in each of those seasons.

Prior to Virginia, Foltz spent the 2016-17 season at NC State, with both the men's (fourth) and women's (seventh) teams finishing near the top end of their respective NCAA Championships. NC State was named the ACC Staff of the Year on both the men's and women's sides that year, and also earned a national championship in the men's 800 free relay. The Wolfpack saw 34 men and 25 women earn CSCAA All-America honors.

His first full-time collegiate coaching stop came at USC, where he spent two seasons (2014-15, 2015-16). In 2016, Foltz helped the USC women to a Pac-12 Championship, a national championship in the 400 free relay, and a sixth-place national finish. The year prior, the USC men won a pair of national championships in relay events (400 free, 800 free) while winning the Pac-12 Championship and earning league men's staff of the year honors.

Foltz got his start in collegiate coaching with a two-year stint as a volunteer assistant at NC State from 2012-14.

A native of Chapel Hill, N.C., Foltz swam collegiately at Towson University. He earned the program's rookie of the year honor in 2009, and received the Unsung Hero Award as a sophomore in 2010.
