PAC-12 SCHOLAR-ATHLETES OF THE YEAR

LAS VEGAS - STANFORD's Brandon Angel was named the 2023-24 Pac-12 Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced ahead of the Pac-12 Tournament. The award, which is presented in each of the 24 sports the Pac-12 sponsors, was established to honor collegiate student-athletes that are standouts both academically and in their sports discipline.

The senior from San Diego carries a 3.99 grade-point average in economics, was a College Sports Communicators Third Team Academic All-American and NABC Honors Court member in 2023, and twice earned Pac-12 Winter Academic Honor Roll recognition (2022, 2023).

Angel has taken his game to new heights in his fourth season on The Farm, posting career-highs in most statistical categories including scoring (12.8 ppg), rebounding (4.6 rpg) and all shooting percentages. He is the only player in the Pac-12 ranked in the top 10 in the league in field goal (8th, 56.1%), three-point field goal (1st, 46.5%) and free throw (5th, 84.8%) percentages.

Off the court, Angel maintains a near-4.0 GPA and will graduate with honors and present his thesis during the spring quarter to Stanford students and faculty. He is completing an honors thesis analyzing the impact of school closures on academic achievement, a process that includes data collection and cleaning, regression analysis and a literature review. Additionally, he has participated in team community service programs, including youth basketball camps in the Bay Area and the Bahamas and reading to elementary school students.

Angel is Stanford's fourth consecutive Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipient in men's basketball, and eighth all-time - nearly half of the 17 honors since the award's inception in 2007-08.
