UP NEXT: Utah set to close regular season against Colorado

SALT LAKE CITY –  The University of Utah women's tennis program is set for a single match this weekend, welcoming the Colorado Buffaloes to the George S. Eccles Tennis Center to cap off the regular season.

LAST TIME OUT

The Utes last took on Arizona on home courts. Utah fell in doubles on courts No. 2 and No. 3 which allowed the Wildcats to claim the doubles point. In singles, Kat Lyman claimed victory on the fourth court 6-2, 7-5. Kaila Barksdale also collected a Ute victory on the No. 3 court, where she topped her opposition 7-5, 6-2. However, the Utes were unable to fend off Arizona's efforts, and fell 4-2.

IN THE RANKS

The Utes are currently ranked No. 51 in the country, after falling to No. 31 Arizona State and No. 42 Arizona. Utah's Marcela Lopez and Ana Luiza Cruz are ranked No. 66 in the country in doubles.

HEAD COACH RIC MORTERA

Ric Mortera is in his fifth season as the head coach of the Utah women's tennis program entering the 2024 spring slate. So far in his tenure he has accumulated a 55-50 overall record. In the 2022-23 season, under Coach Mortera's leadership, the Utes notched a 13-11 record and topped the ITA Mountain Region rankings. Highlights included their inaugural win against Cal and a remarkable triumph over No. 16 Washington, marking their highest-ranked victory in the Pac-12 era. Also during the 2023 season, Mortera led the Utes to the most Pac-12 wins since 2015. In the Fall 2023 slate, Mortera's squad found success in the ITA Regionals, with Emma Kamper staking claim to the singles B draw and Marcela Lopez claiming second in the singles main draw, sending her to nationals.

SCOUTING COLORADO

The Buffaloes hold a 12-8 record overall, going 1-7 in conference play. Utah has faced Colorado on 15 previous accounts, and holds a 10-5 edge over the Buffaloes. The two programs last met in April of 2023, where the Utes claimed a 4-2 victory over the Buffs.

NEXT UP

The Utes will next head to Ojai, Calif. for the Pac-12 Championship tournament April 24-28.
