PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Seth Gwynn, Jr., OF, California (Clayton, Calif.)                   
» 4 GP, .500 AVG, .538 OBP, 1.250 SLG, 6 RBI, 3 HR, 4 R, 6 H, 1 BB, 15 TB

  • Helped the Bears sweep No. 5 Oregon State - Cal's first sweep over a top-5 team since 2016
  • Slashed .500/.538/1.250, clubbing 3 home runs and drove in 6
  • 5 of his 6 RBI came with 2 outs
  • Hit the game-winning walk-off home run to defeat the Beavers in Game 1 - his home run came off Oregon State reliever Bridger Holmes who had only allowed 1 home run and 1 earned run through 20.0 innings before Gwynn's home run
  • In Game 2 he hit a solo home run that began the Bears comeback from a 7-3 deficit in the 7th
  • In the finale, he went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a home run. He put the Bears ahead 2-1 in the 4th with a home run off of starter Eric Segura
  • Earned the game-winning RBI Sunday in the 7th, drawing a bases-loaded walk
  • 1st Cal player to win this award since teammate Caleb Lomavita earned it in the final week of the regular season last year

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Trey Newmann, Fr., RHP, California (Central Pointe, Ore.)                      
» 1 G, 0 GS, 1-0, 5.0 IP, 3.60 ERA, 1 H, 2 ER, 8 K,  1 BB, 14.4 K/9, 0.40 WHIP

  • Tossed 5 innings in relief and earned the win to help Cal complete the sweep over #5 Oregon State
  • Surrendered just 1 hit and 2 runs, striking out 8 on the day
  • After allowing a home run to Dallas Macias in the 6th inning, Newmann went into lockdown mode.  Only allowed 1 base runner to reach over the final 3.1 innings, during that stretch he struck out 6, including the side in the 9th to end the game
  • Right-handed hitters were 0-for-9 against him, and lefties were just 1-for-6
  • 3rd time this season and 2nd straight week that 1 school has swept both awards.  Oregon State swept both of the previous times this season (Feb. 26, April 8)
  • 1st Cal pitcher to win this award since Joseph King in March 2022
  • 1st time since Cal has won both the conference's Player and Pitcher of the Week at the same time since the final week of the 1998 season when the Pac-10 had awards for both the North & South Divisions.  That week (May 4) Xavier Nady was named the Player of the Week while Jason Dennis took home Pitcher of the Week
  • 3rd straight week a school has taken home both awards at the same time after Utah and Oregon State the last 2 weeks.  It's the 4th time this season a school has swept the awards in one week
