Apr 27, 2024

DETROIT, Mich. — Stanford kicker Joshua Karty was drafted on Saturday by the Los Angeles Rams in the sixth round with the 209th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. He becomes the 281st Cardinal to be drafted and the 56th since 2010, the second most among schools in the Pac-12.

The Burlington, North Carolina native is arguably the most decorated kicker in Stanford history and has been one of the best in the nation over his career. He was a finalist for the 2022 Lou Groza Award, given to the best kicker in the country, after going 18-18 on field goals, including a Stanford-record 61-yarder against California. He also earned First Team All-America honors from Sporting News in 2022 and The Athletic in 2023 while picking up a pair of First Team All-Pac-12 honors.

Karty owns the Stanford record for career field goal percentage at 85.0% and impresses the further the distance. He went 17-17 on field goals between 40-49 yards his last two years on The Farm, and 7-10 on field goals from 50+ yards. In his final game inside Stanford Stadium, he made a 56-yard field goal, the second longest in stadium history.

Karty becomes the first Stanford kicker drafted since Ken Naber was selected by the New England Patriots in the eighth round of the 1981 NFL Draft. He becomes the first specialist drafted out of Stanford since Jake Bailey was taken in the fifth round with the 163rd pick by the Patriots in 2019.
